We don't sell pre-built storage appliances. Every Beathan data storage server is engineered around a specific business problem, and that means the first step is always a sit-down meeting — not a price list. We need to understand why you need storage before we decide what to build, because a video streaming platform, a CAD/editing house and a backup archive all need radically different hardware even when the raw capacity figure is identical.

Our platform of choice is TrueNAS on ZFS. ZFS gives us copy-on-write integrity, block-level checksumming, snapshots, replication and storage tiering — the building blocks behind every serious enterprise storage product, but on hardware we spec ourselves so the price reflects your actual workload instead of a vendor markup.

What does a Beathan data storage server cost?

Pricing is bespoke per build. Because every server is sized to a specific workload — different disk counts, vdev layouts, RAM, networking and chassis — there is no fixed price list. The consultation establishes the spec, and the quote follows. Builds range from a few terabytes for a small office through to petabyte-class servers for video and content platforms.

Why TrueNAS and ZFS instead of an off-the-shelf NAS appliance?

TrueNAS on ZFS gives us copy-on-write integrity, block-level checksumming, snapshots, replication and tiering — the same primitives behind enterprise storage products from the major vendors. Because we own the hardware spec, you pay for the silicon and disks rather than a vendor licence on top of them, and the server can be tuned to your exact workload instead of a generic profile.

Why do you insist on a sit-down meeting before quoting?

A petabyte for video editing and a petabyte for cold archive are two completely different machines. The consultation tells us workload, working set size, concurrent users, read/write ratio, growth curve, network topology and DR requirements — without that, any quote is a guess. Real example: one client wanted a petabyte but the right answer was two separate servers (streaming + editing/archive) so the workloads did not interfere with each other.

Do you handle installation and connecting our devices?

Yes. The build includes physical install (on-site or in a datacentre, your choice), network integration, share/protocol configuration, and connecting client devices — laptops, desktops and apps — so the server is in production use the day we hand it over.

How large can you go?

From a few terabytes for a small business up to petabyte-class platforms. We have delivered multi-server petabyte builds for video streaming and editing workloads. There is no upper ceiling — ZFS scales horizontally and we will spec multiple coordinated servers when a single chassis is the wrong answer.

Can the storage be on-premises, in a datacentre, or hybrid?

All three. Most clients prefer the server on their own premises for sovereignty and LAN-speed access; others colocate in a datacentre for power and connectivity guarantees. Hybrid setups with off-site ZFS replication for disaster recovery are also common.
