Our own remote management agent — not a reseller of someone else's RMM

Most "remote IT" offerings in South Africa are thin wrappers around an off-the-shelf RMM platform. Beathan Technologies built our own. Our agent runs on Windows, macOS and Linux endpoints and gives our engineers four things on demand: full file-system access for uploads and downloads, a root-level terminal on the remote machine, live desktop view with full screen takeover, and a built-in two-way chat window so technicians can talk to the user on the device without needing email, WhatsApp or a phone call open at the same time.

Today the agent is deployed on more than 2,000 laptops and workstations and is responsible for managing 600+ remote servers. One of our clients runs their entire fleet of servers across multiple African countries through our platform on a pay-for-access model — we host the management plane, they get the same engineer-grade control we use internally. We operate to a 99.95% uptime SLA on the management plane itself, so the tooling is available even when the customer environments aren't.

    Who we run this for

The Beathan remote management service is in daily production use across four verticals where downtime is expensive and physical site visits are slow:

    • Solar & energy — remote inverters, monitoring gateways and on-site Windows boxes that need patching without dispatching an engineer to a remote installation.
    • Security industry — control room workstations, CCTV NVRs, and the servers behind our Sentry guard-management platform.
    • Finance & accounting firms — terminal-server users, Pastel/Sage hosts and file servers under strict change-control where every action must be logged.
    • Other IT companies — MSPs and internal IT teams who licence access to our agent to manage their own clients across Africa.

What an engineer can actually do once connected

Because the agent was written by the team that supports it, the workflow is built around the four jobs that actually fill a service ticket: get a file onto the machine, get a file off it, run something as root, or show the user what to click. The file browser handles drag-and-drop in both directions with no size cap imposed by a third-party portal. The terminal runs as the system/root account by default, so package installs, service restarts and registry edits don't need a separate elevation prompt. The desktop module lets the engineer watch passively or take the keyboard and mouse, with a banner the end user can see so it's never a covert session. The chat panel sits beside the desktop view, which means the engineer can type an explanation while a fix is running — useful when the user only speaks to IT once a quarter and needs to understand what changed.

Why customers choose a custom agent over Intune or AnyDesk

Off-the-shelf tools are built for the average customer; we built ours for the customers we already had. That means the agent is small, the management console is fast, we can ship a feature when a client asks for it, and the data stays on infrastructure we operate. When a security firm needs guard-PC lockdown rules, or a solar operator needs a scheduled inverter log pull, we add it — instead of waiting for a vendor roadmap. Pricing is straightforward: a per-endpoint monthly fee for managed customers, or a flat platform fee for partner IT companies who want to white-label access for their own client base.
