How it works
No terminal to buy
Face recognition runs on the same Android handset guards already use to clock in at Roll-Call. There is no wall-mounted clock to buy, mount or replace.
Enrolled at the post
A supervisor enrols the guard on the site handset with the admin PIN, so nobody travels to the office to be photographed. The first guard takes about five minutes and the rest about two each.
Identity first
The guard proves who they are by employee number, NFC card or ID barcode before their face is recorded. That is what stops the wrong face being attached to the right name, and the app has no way to skip it.
Consent, recorded either way
Biometric information is special personal information under POPIA. Before enrolling, the guard is told how their face will be stored and used and that they may refuse. A refusal is recorded against the guard, who carries on clocking in with a card or number.
Five guided poses
The camera takes the guard through five slight head positions and checks each frame before it counts, telling them what to change: come closer, turn a little more, turn back a little.
Stored as a template
The handset builds a mathematical template from the poses and uploads it. The photographs themselves are not kept. Web enrolment builds the same template, so a guard enrolled at one site can clock in at any site in the company.
Re-enrol when needed
A guard whose appearance has changed, or who keeps failing to match, can be enrolled again to replace the old template.
